The target raises keep chasing the stock

$$RBRK ( ▲ 0.19% ) added 3.71% Monday after Wedbush raised its price target from $120 to $150, citing Rubrik's leadership in cyber-resilience platforms, its AI integration, strategic discounting that is winning share, projected mid-20% revenue growth through fiscal 2029, and free-cash-flow estimates about 12% above consensus. It extends a hot stretch: the stock jumped 7.7% Thursday to a record near $129.60 on AI-driven cybersecurity demand, and is up roughly 210% from its January low of $41.73, with a market cap around $27 billion.

Here is the detail that frames everything else: the stock now trades above the Street's average price target of roughly $115. When the market front-runs the analysts and the analysts respond by moving the goalposts, the debate stops being about the business and starts being about the multiple.

The recurring-revenue base keeps compounding at 30%-plus.

The quarter that changed the profile

The business earning the enthusiasm is real. Rubrik's second quarter of fiscal 2027 (ended July 31, reported August 27) was an inflection: revenue of $427.3 million, up 38%; subscription ARR of $1.66 billion, up 33%; cloud ARR up 39%; and — the headline — non-GAAP EPS of $0.20 against a loss of $0.03 a year earlier, with profitability arriving well ahead of schedule. Free cash flow was $65.7 million (a 15% margin), the balance sheet holds $1.75 billion, and customers paying $100,000-plus per year grew 23% to 3,084. Management raised full-year guidance across the board: subscription ARR of $1.88 billion, revenue of roughly $1.69 billion, non-GAAP EPS of $0.47–0.53.

The demand story writes itself: the AI boom expands the attack surface — AI agents included — and cyber-resilience (the backup-and-recovery layer that makes ransomware survivable) is budget nobody cuts.

Why the valuation is the whole debate

Enthusiasm has a price. Coverage pegs the forward P/E around 240 and forward EV/EBITDA near 227 — against tech-sector medians around 21 and 13. GAAP operations still lose money ($61.8 million last quarter). Technical analysts flagged a rising-wedge pattern with a bearish MACD crossover last week — classic profit-taking setup language. And Wedbush's own bullish note flags the double edge of "strategic discounting": it wins share, and it pressures margins. Add early-October insider sales by the CTO, and the supply side of the ledger isn't empty.

What we're watching

  • The Q3 fiscal 2027 report. The quarter ended October 31; based on prior cadence, expect results in early December (not yet confirmed). ARR holding above 30% growth is the number that sustains the multiple.

  • $100K+ customer adds. The cleanest proxy for enterprise traction.

  • Margins against the discounting. If share gains come with gross-margin erosion, the free-cash-flow story Wedbush is paying up for weakens.

  • Where the Street's average target settles. A stock trading above consensus targets forces a resolution: either the targets catch up or the stock does, downward.
