The short version

Robinhood reports third-quarter results on October 27. The company publishes operating data every month, so two of the quarter's three months are already public. Through August, stock and options trading were running well ahead of last year, crypto trading was well behind, and event contracts, Robinhood's prediction markets, had grown roughly fifteenfold.

Why event contracts are the number to watch

Event contracts let customers trade on outcomes, from sports results to economic data releases. Robinhood earns a fee on each contract, so revenue grows directly with volume. At 4.7 billion contracts in August, the business has grown from a novelty into a meaningful line, even after a 23% drop from July as the summer sports calendar thinned out.

The question for the quarter is how much revenue that volume produced, and whether Robinhood breaks it out. The September figure matters too: the start of the football season gives customers far more events to trade on.

The rest of the picture

Stocks and options carried the quarter. Equity notional up 68% and options contracts up 50% from a year earlier point to strong transaction revenue from the two products that earn Robinhood the most per trade.

Crypto is the drag. Crypto notional was down 38% from a year earlier. Crypto has been one of Robinhood's most profitable products in strong markets, so a weaker quarter there offsets some of the gains elsewhere.

Interest income keeps growing. The margin book was up 72% to $21.5 billion. In the second quarter, net interest was about 30% of revenue, and a larger margin book plus September's Fed increase should support it.

What we will be watching

Event contract revenue and whether it gets its own line; net deposits, which show whether customers keep bringing new money; expense guidance for the full year; and any update on the timing of products outside the US.

Our take

With two months reported, the shape of the quarter is mostly known: strong trading, weak crypto, a growing interest business and a fast-growing prediction-markets line. The surprises, if any, will come from September and from what management says about 2027. Our full Robinhood report is in progress.
